Fort Langley Artists Group Exhibition: "DANCERS" To September 6, 2010 at the Flagstop Gallery in the Langley Heritage Society CN Station Corner of Mavis Avenue and Glover Road, Fort Langley, BC   (located just across the street from Wendel's Bookstore & Café) See how member artists have interpreted this intriguing theme. Last year's tour was enjoyed by all, and this year's promises to be even better! Across the River: Art by Deborah Strong & Julie Bourne October 1-30, 2010 New Creations Gallery, 22409 McIntosh Avenue, Maple Ridge Deborah teams up with raku artist Julie Bourne and heads "across the river" to Maple Ridge to create an exhibition focussing on nature and the animal world.   The Mane Event Friday-Sunday, October 22-24, 2010 Chilliwack Heritage Park, 44140 Luckakuck Way, Chilliwack Hours: Friday 12noon-9pm; Saturday 9am-9pm, Sunday 9am-6pm This truly is the "main" event for the horse community in BC, featuring shopping, education and entertainment for the equestrian. Ongoing Arts Off Main Gallery hours: Wed-Sat 11am-6pm; Sun 11am-5pm 216 E. 28th Avenue, Vancouver Arts Off Main is an artist-run gallery and the perfect place to find affordable fine art, cards and gifts made by local artists, as well as professional framing services. A selection of Deborah's work will be displayed on an ongoing basis. www.artsoffmain.ca Surrey Art Gallery Gift Shop & Art Rental 13750 - 88 Ave, Surrey, BC Shop hours: Tues 10am-2pm; Thurs, Sat, Sun, 12-4pm (holiday hours may apply) Surrey's Art Gallery complex is a hub for the arts in that region, offering exhibitions, theatre performances, artists' talks and more, as well as housing a fine gift shop of locally-made art and craft, and an art rental program. The gift shop features an excellent selection of small art pieces and gift ware, while the art rental program offers a wonderful way to bring original art into your home for a nominal monthly fee (to rent art you must be a Surrey Art Gallery Association member; memberships are inexpensive and are available at the gift shop). Tourism Langley Mural

Deborah had the pleasure of working with Vivian Harder of Thunderfoot Studio to complete a mural for Tourism Langley, located at the new Willoughby Events Center. The mural depicts a scene of the Golden Ears mountains, overlaid by a map of Langley that features vignette illustrations of some of the community's highlights and activities. Art Lessons
Join me in my studio for fun, hands-on workshops offered a congenial and supportive setting. Workshops are limited to small groups of 4-6 participants. If you have a group who'd like to have a private workshop, let me know and we can set a date! Otherwise, see below for upcoming workshop dates.

Introduction to Silk Painting Learn the basic steps of hand-painting on silk using resist and steam set dyes. Hand painted silk is a wonderful, colourful medium that allows you to create art you can wear, decorate with, or simply admire! In this workshop, you can expect to create a a small, greeting card sized sample as well as a larger square that can be framed or makes a nice decorative cushion cover. I will share my knowledge of the medium and process based on my 20+ years working with silk and dyes. Fee: $90 for the day (materials included) Next Intro to Silk Painting workshop: Saturday, November 6th, 2010, 9:30am-3:30pm To sign up, contact the artist by e-mail.   Introduction to Pet Portraits in Coloured Pencil Learn the basic techniques of working with Prismacolor coloured pencils, with specific attention to capturing the qualities of our feline, canine and equine companions. Coloured pencil is a fascinating medium that allows the user to capture a wide range of textures and effects. In this workshop, shading and textural techniques will be explored before participants commence work on a portrait of their own pet. Fee: $80 for the day A specific supply list will be provided prior to the workshop, and participants will be responsible for purchasing their supplies in advance. Next Coloured Pencil workshop: No date scheduled at this time.

A Day By the River
A limited number of copies are still left - only $15 each with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the animals. This children's book by Mavis Sutton is illustrated by Deborah Strong and is published by the Critter Care Wildlife Society. For more information, click here.
