Art involves curiosity, and for Deborah that means exploring and mastering a variety of different media, and in some cases combining those media in a collage to achieve a desired effect. Each subject informs the artist as to the type of media that will make its execution most successful. It could require the depth of painted silk combined with the delicacy and texture of watercolour, or for the less defined blending of dyes worked into a rice paper batik. Works in oil pastel sometimes form the basis for later works in a different medium, yet at other times emerge as the final product. Creating art in a variety of media keeps Deborah's work fresh and allows each piece to speak in its own language.
