One spring I came across a clutch of newly-hatched ducklings, motherless and peeping at the side of the road.
I waited to see if momma duck was nearby but some calamity must have befallen her because she was nowhere to be seen.
I scooped the brood into a cardboard box and took them home for safekeeping. I was enchanted by these little fuzz
balls during their over-night stay with me before being delivered into the care of a local wildlife shelter.
