Join Deborah in her cozy home studio for informative, hands-on art classes offered in a congenial and supportive setting. Group size is limited to 3-6 participants so each participant receives ample individual attention. Deborah's studio is located in Langley, BC and her art classes and workshops attract participants from the Greater Vancouver area and beyond. Workshop registration details are at the bottom of this page.

Private Workshops, Demos & Lessons
Deborah is available to present coloured pencil and silk painting workshops and demonstrations to groups. Private and semi-private lessons are also available. Call or email for details.


Silk Painting - The Basics
Learn the steps of hand-painting on silk using resist and steam-set dyes in this one-day workshop. Hand painted silk is a wonderful, colourful medium that allows you to create art you can wear, decorate with, or simply admire! In this workshop you can expect to create a a small greeting card sized sample as well as a larger 14"x14" square that can be framed or makes a perfect decorative cushion cover. Deborah will share her knowledge of the medium and process based on her 20+ years working with silk and dyes. Students with previous experience are welcome to join the session and work on a more advanced project.

Silk Scarf Workshop  
Participants with previous silk painting experience are invited to join Deborah for this one-day workshop that focuses entirely on designing and creating a beautiful silk scarf (11"x60") using resist and steam-set dyes. Bring your ideas and see them come to life in a beautiful, wearable piece of art.

Birds in Coloured Pencil
Come share Deborah's love for birds in these one-day workshops. You'll be guided step-by-step through the process of completing a coloured-pencil drawing of a bird working from a stock photograph for reference. Participants will learn techniques that apply when creating likenesses of birds, including rendering feathers, eyes and other textures. Participants are responsible for purchasing their supplies in advance (a supply list will be provided).

Open Coloured Pencil Workshop
You choose the subject! Come spend the day in Deborah's studio working on a project (or projects) under her expert guidance. It could be a bird, a pet portrait, or some other subject that interests you. You must have taken a previous workshop and have an understanding of basic coloured pencil techniques. You must also submit your project idea for approval prior to the workshop.

Attendance at a previous workshop is required.

A Fruitful Day: Coloured Pencil Techniques
This popular workshop focuses entirely on various techniques for working with Prismacolor Premier coloured pencils. Participants will learn tools, techniques, theories and skills through the completion of a series of exercises and small drawings that share a common theme: fruit (apples, pears, cherries, etc). This workshop is an excellent starting point for coloured pencil beginners, offering a foundation from which to move forward into other classes and projects. Those with previous experience will benefit from the specific techniques and exercises covered. Participants are responsible for purchasing their supplies in advance (a supply list will be provided).

Pet Portraits in Coloured Pencil

Learn techniques for working with coloured pencils with the focus on capturing the qualities of our feline and canine companions - their fur, eyes and other features. In this two-day workshop, shading and textural techniques will be explored and participants will work on creating a portrait of their own dog or cat. Participants are responsible for purchasing their supplies in advance (a supply list will be provided). You must submit your project idea for review prior to the workshop.

Some previous coloured pencil experience is helpful but not essential as basic techniques will be covered.

REGISTRATION

When workshop dates have been set and registration is available, you may register and securely pay on line using your credit card in one simple step: just click on the "add to cart" button. You don't need a Paypal account - just follow the instructions to enter your credit card information.

Alternatively, you may register by contacting Deborah by e-mail or phone. Visa and MasterCard are accepted by phone or you can arrange to mail a cheque.

Supply lists and/or other instructions will be sent to you via e-mail.

Fees must be paid in advance to confirm your registration and reserve your space.

To avoid disappointment, please don't wait till the last minute to register! Some workshops fill quickly while others may be cancelled if under-enrolled (cancellation decisions are made approximately three weeks prior to the workshop date).

If you're interested in a workshop that doesn't yet have a date set, send Deborah an e-mail to be put on the mailing list for notification.

REFUNDS

If you have paid your registration fee and must cancel your attendance, refund guidelines are as follows:

• If you give 30 days notice, your fee will be refunded less a 25% administration fee to help cover banking/credit card charges and administration costs.

• If you give less that 30 days notice, no refund will be granted unless the space can be filled from a waiting list, in which case your fee will be refunded less the 25% administration fee.

Note that exceptions to these refund guidelines may apply. All refund requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

If the instructor cancels your workshop, you have two refund options:

• Receive a 100% refund of your fees

• Transfer 100% of your registration fee to another workshop
