Bequia Baby - Hawksbill Turtle
Hand-painted Silk

Original available at Horizons Art Gallery, St. James, Trinidad

On the tiny Caribbean island of Bequia, which lies in the idyllic Grenadines,
is a privately-run sea turtle sanctuary where baby sea turtles are raised to an age that
stands a better chance of survival, then released into the ocean. The
sanctuary consists of a series of man-made pools, all of which are teaming with
turtles, from hatchlings through to soon-to-be-released yearlings. These lucky
little swimmers will hopefully grow to be viable adults and return to the shores
of Bequia to lay their eggs in years to come.
