Sea Lion King
Hand-painted Silk; Image size: 20"x26"
The Vancouver
Island fishing village of Uclulet is home to numerous tour boats that
offer the opportunity for visitors to glimpse some of the wild marine mammals
living in the area.
While the intent is primarily to see the elusive whales, a visit to the sea lion
colonies offers an up-close
view of these majestic (and very smelly) creatures. Accustomed as they are to
the tour boats,
they barely blink an eye. In fact, this fellow practically posed for the
tourists — to me, a much more
thrilling experience than the grey whale's tale flukes glimpsed briefly
through the fog!
